                                                      STEM Tour 2013

On August 12, 2013 Congresman Kennedy announced a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Tour of Massachusetts, where he will visit businesses, schools and programs across the Commonwealth that highlight the state’s leadership in STEM education and workforce development. The tour will focus on best practices as well as strengthening partnerships between industry, government and academia to expand the reach of STEM.

Congressman Kennedy serves as the honorary chair of Governor Deval Patrick’s STEM Advisory Council. He is a member of the House Committee on Science and Technology, as well as a member of the Congressional STEM Caucus.

“Thanks to the Patrick Administration’s leadership and the work of so many advocates in government, industry and academia, Massachusetts has long led the way in preparing students to seize jobs in STEM fields,” said Congressman Kennedy. “At a time when our state’s innovation sector is growing rapidly, giving our workforce the skills required for jobs in advanced manufacturing, information technology and clean energy is more essential than ever. This tour will help highlight some of the best practices our Commonwealth has discovered, as well as bring together stakeholders to discuss ways we can strengthen our STEM efforts and broaden their reach.”

“Focusing on the strategies and investments that boost our STEM programs prepare our students and workers for the 21st century global economy,” said Governor Patrick. “I am pleased that Congressman Kennedy has enthusiastically taken on the role of Chair on the Advisory Council, and I look forward to our continued work together to keep Massachusetts a leader in STEM education and workforce development.”
