KENNEDY STATEMENT ON MASS TRANSGENDER EQUALITY BILL
Newton, MA – Congressman Joe Kennedy III today released the following statement applauding passage of H. 4343, An Act Relative to Transgender Anti-Discrimination, by the Massachusetts State House of Representatives.
“No citizen of our Commonwealth or country should be subject to legalized discrimination. With passage of S. 735 and H. 4343, both chambers of our State House have sent a clear message that this will be the year we add Massachusetts to the list of states that guarantee equality for transgender individuals. I applaud Speaker DeLeo, Representative Rushing and Representative Provost for their leadership and congratulate the advocates who continue to fight day and night to bring this legislation to the Governor’s desk.”
An outspoken advocate for transgender rights, Kennedy testified in support of the legislation before the Massachusetts Joint Committee on the Judiciary last year. In Congress, he is a member of the LGBT Equality Caucus’s bipartisan Transgender Equality Task Force.
