HOUSE PASSES KENNEDY AMENDMENT TO PURSUE LAUNCH OF ELECTION THREAT RESPONSE CENTER
Washington, D.C. – As President Donald Trump prepares to meet with President Vladimir Putin this week, Congressman Joe Kennedy III applauded today’s passage of his amendment to the Intelligence Authorization Act to pursue the establishment of a Foreign Malign Influence Response Center to defend against foreign efforts to influence American elections. With primaries for midterm elections already underway, Kennedy’s amendment would require Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats to study the establishment of a fusion center comprised of experts across relevant government agencies.
“Our democracy stands tall when our elections stand secure. As Russia attempts to replicate their success influencing our election, our government’s response to this threat has been woefully inadequate. With the passage of this amendment, Congress can begin to force this Administration to coordinate and consolidate our efforts to protect our elections across every layer of our democracy.”
