KENNEDY BILL TO STRENGTHEN MEDICAID & CHIP PASSES HOUSE

Legislation would stabilize eligibility for Medicaid & CHIP beneficiaries

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Joe Kennedy III today applauded the passage of his Stabilize Medicaid and CHIP Coverage Act to protect Americans from losing health care coverage due to onerous paperwork, temporary loss of housing or other life events for adults and children. By guaranteeing 12 months of continuous coverage, this legislation would improve health outcomes, reduce administrative costs and increase health care coverage.

“For millions of Americans who have lost their jobs in recent weeks, the pain of unemployment is compounded by the unexpected loss of health care. In the wealthiest nation on earth, no one should lose their health coverage for reasons beyond their control – not during a pandemic, and not ever. Under the Stabilize Medicaid and CHIP Coverage Act, we can protect patients and children, and I hope the Senate will pass this bill immediately.”

Included in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Enhancement Act, the Stabilize Medicaid and CHIP Coverage Act has received the support of American Academy of Pediatrics, American Counseling Association, Association for Behavioral Health and Wellness, Global Alliance for Behavioral Health and Social Justice, Kennedy Forum, National Alliance on Mental Illness, National Council for Behavioral Health, School-Based Health Alliance, America’s Essential Hospitals, the Association for Community Affiliated Plans, the Children’s Hospital Association, and Families USA.
