CMS Administrator has routinely abused taxpayer funds

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Joe Kennedy III today called on President Donald Trump to remove Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator Seema Verma based on a pattern of misuse of taxpayer funds. Citing documents showing that Administrator Verma spent over $3 million on contracts for communications consultants and media advisors, as well as recent reports that she requested a taxpayer-funded refund for lost property, Kennedy and four colleagues urged the President to swiftly remove and replace her.

“Over and over again, Administrator Seema Verma has demonstrated a troubling unwillingness to put the interests of the American people above her own. As she continues a campaign to take health care away from millions of Americans and lectures patients on personal responsibility, she has spent millions of taxpayer funds to build her personal image and cover the cost of her lost belongings. If President Trump believes that public funds should not be used for the private gains of public officials, he will fire Administrator Verma immediately.”

Kennedy’s letter was signed by Congressman Tony Cárdenas (CA-29), Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal (WA-07), Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (IL-09), and Congressman Bobby L. Rush (IL-01). To read the full letter, please click here.
