KENNEDY STATEMENT ON REPUBLICAN POVERTY AGENDA

Newton, MA – Congressman Joe Kennedy III today released the following statement in response to Speaker Paul Ryan’s plan to address poverty.

“A response to poverty that tears holes in our safety net, denies health care to those in need, slashes SNAP funding and further disadvantages working families is no response at all. The plan offered today by House Republicans is tone-deaf to the systemic inequities that create and compound poverty in America. Missing from their proposal are the substantive policy reforms that would actually make a difference for families struggling to get by: investments in our public school system, a strong and livable minimum wage for those who are able to work, and protection from hunger and homelessness for those who cannot.  In this country, we have never turned our back on our most vulnerable neighbors and we shouldn’t start today.”
