Congressman Kennedy Announces Over $175,000 for Fire Departments Serving Wheatfield & Lewiston

Federal Grants Support Operations and Safety

WASHINGTON, DC—Congressman Tim Kennedy (NY-26) announced two federal grants totaling $175,386.66 for fire departments serving neighborhoods in the Towns of Wheatfield and Lewiston. The funding is provided through the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighter Grant (AFG) program. 

“This federal funding provides critical resources to support the selfless work of volunteer firefighters and the communities they serve in Niagara County,” Congressman Kennedy said.  

Background: 

The Upper Mountain Fire Company will receive $140,529.52. Established in 1959, and located on Moyer Road, the department provides fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) in the Town of Lewiston.  

St. Johnsburg Fire Company has been awarded $34,857.14. The department, located on Ward Road in North Tonawanda, has been serving the Town of Wheatfield community for nearly 100 years.

Congress authorized $324 million for the Assistance to Firefighter Grant program to be distributed to departments nationwide to support readiness, training, equipment, and community safety.
