Congressman Kennedy Statement On Stopgap Government Funding Bill

Today, Congressman Tim Kennedy (NY-26) released the following statement after the House passed a continuing resolution (CR) to fund the government until December 20, 2024.

“Today, Congress passed a continuing resolution to avoid a government shutdown, ensuring that the lights stay on and our hardworking federal employees are paid,” Congressman Kennedy said. “But this is a bare minimum stopgap. It is not a replacement for an annual budget, and fails to provide the funding needed to properly provide the medical care our veterans have earned and deserve. Congress must finish the job to deliver for Western New Yorkers and the American people.”

Today, during a hearing entitled “Everyday Heroes: Supporting the Veteran Caregiver Community” with the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, Congressman Kennedy confirmed with Laura Duke, Chief Financial Officer, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration, that the department needs an additional $12 billion to fully fund veteran health services.
