Congressman Kennedy Statement on Weinberg Campus’ Coplon Living Center Closure

Today, Congressman Tim Kennedy (NY-26) released the following statement after Weinberg Campus announced the closure of its Rosa Coplon Living Center. The Center currently houses approximately 120 residents and employs more than 400 employees, of which 300 are 1199SEIU members.

“I am deeply concerned by the decision of Weinberg Campus to close its 180-bed Rosa Coplon Living Center, which will leave residents and their family members scrambling to secure quality care and will rob more than 300 SEIU union employees of good-paying, fulfilling jobs. As an occupational therapist, I know first hand how important skilled, quality, and reliable care is to the health of older adults in Western New York. This closure undermines the welfare of both the residents and the skilled healthcare workforce that serves them and will stand to exacerbate the ongoing care crisis in our region. I urge Weinberg leaders and state officials to work toward a solution, including exploring a receivership, that protects residents and workers.”
