WNY Leaders Kennedy, Poloncarz, Kulpa, Scanlon, McMahon Urge Governor Hochul to Save Coplon Living Center from ClosingElected Officials Call on Governor to Support a Receivership That Would Prevent the Closure of the 180-Bed Nursing Home Facility
Buffalo, NY,
October 30, 2024
Today, Congressman Tim Kennedy (NY-26), Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz, Amherst Supervisor Brian Kulpa, Buffalo Mayor Christopher P. Scanlon, and Assemblywoman Karen McMahon released the following statement urging Governor Kathy Hochul to intervene in the planned closure of the Rosa Coplon Living Center at Weinberg Campus in the Town of Amherst: “The decision of Weinberg Campus to close its 180-bed Rosa Coplon Living Center will undermine the well-being of its residents, and jeopardize the livelihood of over 300 skilled healthcare professionals. Western New York is in the midst of a care crisis, with older adults and their loved ones bearing the brunt of dwindling facilities and a strained healthcare workforce. Our region cannot afford the closure of yet another nursing home facility. We strongly urge Governor Hochul to intervene by directing the Department of Health to facilitate an expedited receivership to ensure the facility remains open, and residents have the choice to stay in the place they call home.” ### |
