Congressman Kennedy Announces $360 Million in Heating Assistance Available to New Yorkers

Federal HEAP Funding Helps Residents Lower Home Energy Costs

Congressman Tim Kennedy (NY-26) announced residents in New York State will receive $360,185,996 in federal funding through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP). HEAP makes home heating assistance available to eligible residents.

“As the winter season approaches, HEAP funding helps to fill the gap to ensure seniors and families on a fixed income can remain safe and healthy in their homes,” said Congressman Kennedy. “I’m proud to deliver these critical resources for New Yorkers and encourage residents looking for help paying their energy bills to apply for HEAP assistance.”

The resources for New York State are part of $3.7 billion in HEAP funding released to states and territories nationwide. The newly released funding was included in the Continuing Resolution approved by Rep. Kennedy in September. This allocation includes an additional $100.1 million made available through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to help residents with heating assistance and long-term improvements to upgrade home energy equipment and energy efficiency home upgrades.

The HEAP application window in New York opened on November 1, 2024. Residents can use the U.S. Health and Human Services online tool to see if they might be eligible for HEAP: https://liheapch.acf.hhs.gov/eligibility-tool. Western New Yorkers are also encouraged to visit the Erie County www3.erie.gov/heap/ or Niagara County www.niagaracounty.gov/departments/s-z/social_services/heap.php HEAP websites for additional information on eligibility and the HEAP application process.
