Congressman Tim Kennedy (NY-26) announced federal funding is available through the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFG).  The program supports equipment, training, and protective gear aimed at keeping first responders and communities safe from fire and related hazards.  

“Firefighters and emergency responders provide a selfless service, racing into difficult and dangerous situations to help their neighbors and protect our communities,” said Congressman Kennedy, a member of the House Committee on Homeland Security. “The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program provides critical resources to enhance capabilities and improve safety. I encourage local fire departments to apply.”

The application period opens on November 12, 2024, and the deadline to apply is 5:00 p.m. on December 20, 2024. The program makes $291.6 million in grant funding available to fire departments and non-affiliated emergency medical services (EMS) organizations nationwide.
