Congressman Kennedy’s Statement on Federal Judge Blocking Trump Executive Order Dismantling Library Services Agency

BUFFALO, NY – Congressman Tim Kennedy (NY-26) released the following statement following U.S. District Court Judge Richard Leon’s ruling temporarily blocking the Trump administration from taking additional steps to dissolve the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS):

“Once again, the courts have stepped in to stop the Trump administration from doing irreparable harm through illegal means – this time to our libraries and the people they serve. The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) provides critical funding to institutions that foster community and ensure equitable access to knowledge. Across Western New York, the resources libraries provide are lifelines, especially for children, seniors, and underserved communities.

“On April 24, I stood with Buffalo and Erie County Public Library officials, patrons, and fellow leaders in government to fight back against President Trump’s shortsighted and erroneous order aimed at ending the IMLS as we know it. Now is a time to invest in educational resources, not to dismantle the very institutions that make learning possible for every community.”
