Statement from Congressman Kennedy on Trump Decision to Unilaterally Terminate Trade Talks with Canada
Washington,
June 27, 2025
“President Trump’s decision to blow up trade talks with Canada is a direct threat to working families in Western New York and across the country. It demonstrates, once again, that this President is more interested in protecting his ego than the economic future of small businesses and working families. This is about jobs, paychecks, and being able to put food on the table for countless Americans. “From manufacturers and small businesses to the farmers and truck drivers who depend on cross-border commerce, this move injects more chaos into an economy already shaken by the President’s tariff roulette. Trump’s erratic approach to international trade isn’t leadership, it’s economic sabotage, and working families will be left picking up the pieces. “Western New York’s economy and culture are deeply intertwined with Canada. Cutting off trade talks with our closest ally and reverting back to tariff threats jeopardizes critical supply chains, drives up the cost of living, and puts jobs at risk. This is not America first – it is working families last.” ### |
