Congressman Kennedy Statement on House Passage of Trump and Congressional Republicans’ Big Ugly Bill
Washington,
July 3, 2025
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Tim Kennedy (NY-26) released the following statement following House passage of the GOP reconciliation bill, now set to be signed into law by President Trump: “By passing the Big Ugly Bill, President Trump and Congressional Republicans are inflicting pain and economic devastation that Americans will feel for generations. They have sold out hardworking families just to hand tax breaks to billionaires. “This bill guts Medicaid, Medicare, and nutritional assistance by over a trillion dollars. It rips health insurance away from 17 million Americans, leading to overcrowded emergency rooms, more expensive premiums, increased copays, and higher deductibles. At the same time, it steals food off the tables of children, veterans, and seniors, abandoning the very people we are elected to serve. “As an occupational therapist, I dedicated my career to helping people live with dignity, from children with special needs to seniors working to regain their independence. I know exactly what is at stake with these cuts. They will hurt American families and cause hospitals and nursing homes to close across the country. “The passage of this bill is not a victory. It is a betrayal of the American people. I voted against this bill because I refuse to stand by while Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans continue to stack the deck against hardworking families.” ### |
