Congressman Tim Kennedy (NY-26) released the following statement following the Senate’s confirmation of Bryan Bedford to head the Federal Aviation Administration: “The confirmation of Bryan Bedford to lead the Federal Aviation Administration is a decision that is not only dangerous to the flying public, but a slap in the face to the families of Colgan Air Flight 3407. These families have worked tirelessly and successfully to advocate for the 1,500-hour flight hour rule – a requirement Mr. Bedford failed to commit to upholding during his Senate confirmation hearing. “Mr. Bedford’s confirmation sends a clear message that this administration is willing to put industry interests over proven safety standards and unravel years of progress made to keep our skies safe. “I remain committed to working with the families of Flight 3407 to ensure no other families have to endure the same preventable and heartbreaking loss they did 16 years ago. The FAA must remain steadfast in its mission to provide the safest, most efficient air travel system in the world, and I will do everything in my power to hold Mr. Bedford accountable to that standard.” ### |
