Kennedy Statement on Trump Administration Threats to FEMA
Washington,
January 27, 2025
BUFFALO, NY— Congressman Tim Kennedy (NY-26) issued the following statement after the Trump Administration threatened to issue an executive order to eliminate the Federal Emergency Management Agency: “The Trump Administration’s plans to eliminate FEMA would leave states to fend for themselves, decimating the ability of families and communities across the country to recover from natural disasters and emergencies,” said Congressman Kennedy. “This proposal goes against everything we stand for as Americans. We must stand together in emergencies, not leave our neighbors to struggle. As Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Emergency Management and Technology on the House Committee on Homeland Security, I will do everything in my power to preserve FEMA’s authority, and ensure that it has the resources and workforce required to meet the needs of communities impacted by disasters—from wildfires in the west, hurricanes in the southeast, and extreme winter storms here in Western New York.” Kennedy recently introduced the Support Neighborhoods Offset Winter Damage (SNOW) Act. The legislation, announced by Kennedy in December, would update the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) disaster assistance policies to better help communities prepare for and recover from snowstorms. FEMA also administers federal fire grants to departments in Western New York. ### |
