Congressman Kennedy Calls for Immediate Replacement of Leadership at FEMA

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Tim Kennedy (NY-26) released the following statement regarding recent reports that the Trump administration’s FEMA Acting Administrator, David Richardson, claimed he was unaware of the Atlantic hurricane season or that hurricane season had started on June 1.

“It’s outrageous that the Acting Administrator of FEMA, the agency responsible for preparing for and responding to disasters, was unaware of the existence of hurricane season. Emergency management is no laughing matter, and the American people deserve serious people in positions of authority. The Acting Administrator's incompetence, ignorance, or poor judgment is unacceptable and dangerous.

“The American people deserve a FEMA that’s focused, prepared, and led by someone who takes the job seriously. As Ranking Member of the Homeland Security Subcommittee on Emergency Management, I call for the immediate replacement of the Acting Administrator with a qualified expert. American lives depend on it.”
