Democratic Lawmakers Call for Accountability After Fatal ICE Actions Threaten Public Safety and Rule of Law WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Tim Kennedy (NY‑26) joined members of the Congressional Tri‑Caucus and fellow Democratic lawmakers outside the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) headquarters in Washington, D.C. to call for the removal of Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem. The demonstration highlighted a pattern of dangerous and unconstitutional actions by ICE and DHS leadership, including the recent deaths of American citizens at the hands of federal immigration agents.
“Secretary Noem’s continued tenure fundamentally undermines the Department of Homeland Security’s core mission to keep all Americans safe and secure,” said Congressman Tim Kennedy. “Under her failed leadership, she has cultivated a culture of lawlessness, emboldened anonymous masked agents to act with impunity, and repeatedly violated the Constitution. Anyone who willfully presides over and defends the killing of American citizens and the violation of civil rights must be removed from their position. Kristi Noem must be impeached.” Kennedy, a member of the House Committee on Homeland Security, has signed onto H.Res.996, a resolution calling for Noem’s impeachment, following her repeated failures to uphold her sworn oath to preserve, protect, and defend the U.S. Constitution while leading DHS. During the past month alone, federal immigration enforcement operations have resulted in the deaths of U.S. citizens Renee Nicole Good and Alex Pretti, raising serious concerns about the use of lethal force by ICE agents and the lack of transparent, accountable investigations. Additionally, under Noem’s watch, more people have died in ICE custody in 2025 than in any of the previous twenty years. By defending these actions and resisting meaningful oversight, Secretary Noem has allowed a pattern of violence and constitutional violations to persist, threatening public safety and eroding trust in a critical federal agency. Her refusal to answer for these failures before the Committee on Homeland Security and the American public demonstrates a fundamental disregard for DHS’s mission to protect all Americans, making her removal from office necessary and just. ### |
