Congressman Kennedy Statement on Flight 5342 Crash

Condemns President Trump for Abhorrent Response

BUFFALO, NY — Congressman Tim Kennedy (NY-26) released the following statement in the aftermath of the American Airlines Flight 5342 crash outside of Reagan Washington National Airport:

“I am praying for all the families of the victims of this terrible tragedy involving American Airlines Flight 5342 and a U.S. Army helicopter that took the lives of 67 people. I will continue to monitor and support the work of federal agencies responding to and investigating this tragic incident. Moving forward, I will fight to ensure that their deaths were not in vain. As our nation joins together to mourn, may we use this moment to embrace one another and the values that unite us.

“In the wake of the crash, I’m appalled President Trump chose to politicize this horrific tragedy, desecrating the memory of each of the 67 souls that were lost. Instead of relying on expert federal agencies to complete their investigations to determine the cause of the crash, he has continued his assault on women and people of color in the federal workforce. His actions are beneath the dignity of the office he holds and Americans deserve better.”
